Žižkov City

Žižkov City will be built on the site of the former Žižkov freight station, one of the most significant transformation areas in the wider centre of Prague. This predominantly residential neighbourhood will offer more than 4,000 apartments for approximately 8,000 residents. The total investment cost of the project will amount to roughly 25 billion CZK.

The new development will build on Žižkov’s traditional urban structure. The ground floors of the buildings will house shops and other services. The neighbourhood will also include sports facilities, cycle paths and social services facilities. Green areas and public spaces will play a significant role. The project envisages a series of interconnected parks and public spaces, complemented by green pedestrian promenades.

The focal point of the area will be the heritage building of the former freight station, the largest surviving functionalist structure in Prague. The City of Prague plans to renovate it and transform it into a cultural and community centre; the extension of the building also creates potential for the development of council apartments. In the immediate vicinity of the station building, a square is planned featuring shops, communal spaces and a new primary school. The ambition is to create a new central square for Žižkov and a natural hub for the entire area.

An important milestone in the project’s preparation was the approval of the amendment to the zoning plan by the Prague City Council in April 2025. According to the current schedule, construction work on the first two residential blocks of Žižkov City is due to begin in early 2028.

Žižkov City will bring a new urban structure to the hitherto closed site of the former freight station and open it up to residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods. The historical station building, the new square and a network of parks will form the basis of a public space around which a new part of Žižkov will gradually develop.
