Prague: Ready to grow

Prague, central Europe’s economic powerhouse, where real-estate prices have reached record highs, is opening up its development potential on an unprecedented scale with its newly approved Metropolitan Plan.

Prague: Building on History, Planning for the Future

Prague is a city with an extraordinary history. Yet our responsibility goes beyond merely preserving what previous generations have left behind. We must also ensure that Prague can continue to develop and remain a great place to live for generations to come.

The new Metropolitan Plan is an important tool for achieving this. Prague does not wish to sprawl unchecked into the surrounding countryside. Our priority is to make better use of the space already available within the city – in particular its extensive brownfields and other currently underused areas. It is here that new neighbourhoods can emerge, with housing, services, job opportunities and high-quality public spaces, all well connected to public transport.

At the same time, we must protect what makes Prague Prague. Its historic centre, skyline and exceptional cultural heritage are not obstacles to further development. On the contrary, they are assets that must be accounted for in any high-quality urban development.

The Metropolitan Plan also provides investors with a clearer and more predictable framework. Prague has a number of major projects in the pipeline, and bringing them to fruition will require cooperation between the public and private sector. The city must be clear about where it wants to go, lay out transparent rules, and be a reliable partner for those who are ready to invest responsibly with a long-term perspective.

This is why I am glad that Prague is presenting alongside the Czech Republic at Expo Real. It is not only an opportunity to highlight specific projects and investment opportunities, but above all to present the capital itself as a confident European city with a clear sense of where it wants to go in the decades ahead.

Prague has a lot to offer. And we want to work with those who do not just see it as a place to invest, but as a city whose future is worth having a stake in.
